Yorkshire better than Paris!
Forget the fine dining in Paris, the vibrancy of London and the fabled Venetian canals – there was more for holidaymakers in Yorkshire according to the tourism awards ceremony at the weekend.
For the second consecutive year running, the UK’s largest county was named Europe’s leading destination at the “World Travel Awards”, which was voted for by travel industry professionals.
Following the success of the Tour de France Grande Depart last month, Yorkshire held off 13 rival nominations including London, St Petersburg, Venice and Paris.
More than two million people lined the road to watch cyclists pass through some of the country’s prettiest landscapes and those images seem to have influenced those deciding the awards.
